Jorge Brandao dead, tragedy at Morocco rally

New tragedy in the world of rally raids. During the fifth last stage of the Morocco Rally, contested on a loop route starting and finishing in Erfoud, Jorge Brandao died.
The Portuguese motorcyclist lost his life following a crash in the big dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga, when there were only a handful of kilometers to go before the end of the last special.
Brandao, in his second participation in the race on African soil, was promptly rescued by the organization’s medical team aboard a medical helicopter that rushed him to Erfoud hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Rallye du Maroc extends its sincerest condolences to Jorge Brandao’s family and all his loved ones at this time of deep sorrow” reads a note.
