Milan, storm against Santiago Gimenez: avalanche of criticism

The issue of Santiago Gimenez is holding the stage: on social media many are attacking the Mexican striker, accused of faking during Milan-Fiorentina in the contact in the Viola area with Parisi.
From the images, the defender’s hand can be seen on the center forward’s neck but it is difficult to determine the extent of the contact. Referee Livio Marinelli at first did not grant the penalty, then was called back to VAR and changed his decision.
A lot of Inter fans on social media are comparing the San Siro episode with the one that occurred during Juventus-Inter, when Khéphren Thuram hit Ange-Yoan Bonny. In that case, the referee decided not to punish the Bianconeri midfielder’s intervention.
At the end of Milan-Fiorentina, Stefano Pioli also spoke on the Gimenez issue: “By doing so we invite the players to continue simulating. By doing so everyone is on the ground all the time. VAR must intervene for clear and obvious error, you tell me if this is a clear error. We need to do better, but not just us. I always go back to the first rule that the referees told us, VAR intervenes if there’s a clear error by the referee. Too bad because I hear so many comments, some even trivial, but that”.
As against the Rossoneri came the fourth defeat in the league for Fiorentina, which finds itself in third-last place with just 3 points won in the first 7 days. Stefano Pioli appears not to be at risk of being exonerated but the Viola fans expect a change of gear as early as the next game.
