Jannik Sinner: Andrea Scanzi weighs in on the matter

Jannik Sinner’s no to the Italian national team continues to inflame the public debate between those in favor and those against. After being targeted by Vespa, Gramellini, Cazzullo and Augias, the world number two tennis player instead found support from Andrea Scanzi, who defended the often-criticized Azzurro in other interventions in the past.
“Sinner heats up tempers because he is a champion that Italy never had and he made Italians passionate about tennis. Everything he does, he makes people discuss”, explained the journalist from Il Fatto Quotidiano at the microphones of La7.
“Cazzullo and others are making a pointless and meaningless controversy. I agree with Cazzullo on the tax issue, I don’t agree at all with him and everyone like him on the Davis controversy, because now we are talking about Davis. And this Davis Cup doesn”t matter anymore, said Scanzi drastically.
“Tennis is an individual sport. He answers for himself. He said it a year ago that he should rest. He is accountable to no one. Many people don’t know what they are talking about when they talk about tennis: when you say he doesn’t care about the national team, how do you say that? He alone scored so many victories. And Federer and Nadal did the same thing as Sinner”.
