Federica Brignone can’t resist the call of the World Cup: the Italian takes stock of her condition

Although forced to be unable to wear skis due to the serious injury she suffered at the tail end of the 2024-2025 season, reigning Alpine Ski World Cup champion Federica Brignone wanted to be present at the first race of the 2025-2026 year, the Sölden Giant Slalom won by Julia Scheib, which brought back an Austrian athlete ahead of all others on the Rettenbach slope after nine years since the last time.
The Italian champion spoke to the microphones of ‘Rai Sport’, taking stock of her own condition: “It may sound strange but I am happy to be here and to embrace this world again – she said -. The energy of this environment makes me want to come back even more. How do I feel? Mentally good, luckily my attitude has always been positive”.
“I am trying hard to get back as soon as possible, I am continuing my rehabilitation work. Have I heard from Marta Bassino? Sure, I spoke to her privately because for these situations I prefer it that way. I will see her at J-Medical, I will have a chance to spend some time’ with her even though I regret having to do it there and not on the track. The goal for both of us is to get back as soon as possible”.
Reigning Alpine Skiing World Cup champion Federica Brignone will unfortunately not be able to defend her title this season because of the very serious injury she suffered during the Italian Championships in early April in Moena: the Italian champion, who underwent immediate surgery to reduce the multi-fragmentary compound fracture of the tibial plateau and the head of the fibula in her left leg, is also recovering from the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, another consequence of the same fall.
