That relations between Gian Piero Gasperini and Alejandro “Papu” Gomez have largely mended, after the bombastic breakup between the two dating back to Atalanta-Midtjylland on Dec. 1, 2020, is a well-known fact. In the meantime, however, the Argentine, set to return to the field with Padova in Serie B, wanted to praise his former coach who is currently leading Serie A at the helm of Roma.

“Gasperini always pushes you to give your best from a mental point of view – said Gomez during a lengthy speech on the screens of ‘Sky Sport’ -If you can hold on and you are smart enough, then by necessity you will improve. If mentally you can”t hold on, you”ll never make it with him.

The Papu then also wanted to list some of the secrets behind Gasperini’s successes in recent years, based on their shared experience at Atalanta. “He knows how to prepare matches well and adapts to the characteristics of his players. His best aspect, however, is knowing how to get into your head and then making you grow” added Gomez.

The Argentine then concluded on a colorful note, related to the recent exoneration of Igor Tudor from Juventus. “I know Brambilla well, who will replace him against Udinese. He opened the doors of Primavera dell’Atalanta for me when what happened with Gasperini. So I went to train with him. And he is a coach who has always done well in Bergamo” Papu Gomez recounted.
