WTA Finals 2025, Aryna Sabalenka among Jasmine Paolini’s opponents: the composition of the rounds

The rounds of the WTA Finals, scheduled from Nov. 1 to 8217;8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were drawn late Tuesday afternoon. Two Italian athletes are involved: they are Jasmine Paolini, who qualified for both singles and doubles, and Sara Errani, who will play right along with the champion from Bagni di Lucca with the goal of conquering another great tournament as a pair.
Regarding singles, Jasmine Paolini has been drawn in the ‘Steffi Graf Group’ along with world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 3 Coco Gauff and No. 5 Jessica Pegula. However, part of the other grouping, the ‘Serena Williams Group‘ are number 2 Iga Swiatek, number 4 Amanda Anisimova, number 6 Elena Rybakina and number 7 Madison Keys.
In doubles, however, Paolini and Errani were drawn in the ‘Martina Navratilova Group’ along with the pairs Veronika Kudermetova/Elise Mertens, Hsieh Su-wei/Jelena Ostapenko and Asia Muhammad/Demi Schuurs. In the other round, the ‘Liezel Huber Group’ there are the doubles Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend, Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe, Mirra Andreeva/Diana Shnaider and Timea Babos/Luisa Stefani.
Introduced in 1972 as the final event of the season, the WTA Finals have never seen an Italian success in singles, a tournament in which the athlete with the most final victories is Martina Navratilova, with eight wins between 1978 and 1986. In doubles, however, Flavia Pennetta succeeded in 2010, paired with Argentina’s Gisela Dulko. The defending champions are Coco Gauff for singles and the Dabrowski/Routliffe pair for doubles.
