Juventus, controversy over penalty penalty canceled: moviolista Marelli prompts debate

Third consecutive draw for Luciano Spalletti’s Juventus, which failed to go beyond the 1-1 draw at the Franchi stadium against last-place Fiorentina coached by Paolo Vanoli. Great controversy in the first half of the match over a penalty first granted and then taken away from the Old Lady.
The protagonists were Vlahovic and Pablo Marì, with the Serbian falling in the area after a contact with the purple defender. Referee Doveri has no doubts and immediately whistles the penalty kick, but is immediately called back by VAR. DAZN moviolista Marelli agrees with Doveri (“Considering that Vlahovic had already jumped over the opponent I would say it is a purely on-field assessment”) but shortly afterwards the same referee decides to take the penalty away from the Old Lady.
The controversy on the field erupted, and Marelli commented skeptically: “It is true that there’s a double hold, but in these circumstances you leave the decision of the field. To claim that Vlahovic’s restraint was more intense than Pablo Marì’s is a stretch from the point of view of protocol”.
On social media the anger of the Juventini against referee Doveri’s referee and Var inevitably exploded. The match was also marked by the brief interruption for racist chants against Dusan Vlahovic.
