Virtus Bologna routs Desio, Nicola Brienza defends Cantù

The Desio game between Cantù and Virtus Bologna ended 77-89, with the Emilians confirming the top of the Serie A standings on equal points with Germani Brescia. A defeat that coach Nicola Brienza analyzed after the game, on the one hand defending the performance of his men and on the other analyzing the aspects on which the Brianzoli can try to grow.
“Our game overall was good, but when you face teams of the strength that Virtus Bologna has you have to be on the edge of perfection – noted Brienza -. We wanted to run a lot and we managed lost balls well, without giving advantage to our opponents. However, especially during the first half, it cost us a lot of offensive rebounds”.
Brienza then went more into the details that caused Cantù’s defeat: “We closed the area, we wanted to dirty their percentages from two and moved the ball well, but Virtus was good at punishing us for all the mistakes we made. I told the team that we could from the start play with a little more aggressiveness and brashness, but our performance was still pretty good”.
Now Brienza’s goal is to reset everything and get going again ahead of the trip to Venice on Dec. 7. “We are going into a week without matches. We will try to work to the best of our ability to be ready when the league resumes”.
