After a much-needed break following a very intense 2025 season, Lorenzo Musetti has officially begun, with a big news, his path to 2026: on the courts of Monte Carlo, where he resumed training, the Carrara tennis player in fact welcomed his new “supercoach” the Spaniard José Perlas. An important name to try to turn his career around, in the same way that Jannik Sinner succeeded by welcoming Australian Darren Cahill to his team in mid-2022. Perlas thus returns to work with an Italian tennis player, Fabio Fognini, with whom he worked between 2012 and 2016.

Ex-Captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team and winner of two Saladerias (2000 and 2004), José Perlas is one of the most highly regarded coaches on the circuit, having worked with such top names as Carlos Moya, Albert Costa, Guillermo Coria, Nicolas Almagro, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Janko Tipsarevic and Fabio Fognini. In the photo posted by Musetti on his Instagram profile, Perlas is pictured together with the Carrara tennis player, Simone Tartarini, the historic coach of ‘Lore’, and Damiano Fiorucci, athletic trainer. The team is already hard at work ahead of the first major event in 2026, the’Australian Open.

Lorenzo Musetti comes from a 2025 full of satisfaction, with the best ranking ever reached in June (sixth place) and the eighth final position in the season, topped by the participation in the ATP Finals in Turin. He missed winning a tournament but still made three appearances in a final: in Monte Carlo he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz, in Chengdu by Alejandro Tabilo, and in Athens by Novak Djokovic. At the Grand Slam level, however, he reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, surrendering to an injury in the semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz, and the quarterfinals at the US Open, where it was Jannik Sinner who eliminated him instead.

In Australia, Musetti is aiming to improve on his 2025 result, where he stopped in the third round in the face of Ben Shelton.
