Drama in Portugal: illness in the field, dies Nassur Bacem

The world of soccer is in mourning after the death of Nassur Bacem, a footballer with LGC Moncarapachense (Portuguese fourth division club). The 27-year-old fell ill on the field during the match against Imortal’Imortal valid for the Algarve Cup qualifiers and, despite the timely intervention of medical personnel, there was nothing to be done.
The club posted an official note on its Facebook page: “It is with profound sadness and enormous dismay that Gym Lusitano Club Moncarapachense confirms the passing of 27-year-old athlete Nassur Bacem, who occurred during the Algarve Cup qualifying match against Imortal. The’athlete fell on the grass and went into cardiorespiratory arrest”.
“The doctor and our physiotherapist rushed to the field immediately, as did the Imortal medical staff and the manager of Base Life Support at Ollon Municipal Stadium. Despite all efforts there was nothing they could do. Nassur is gone too soon, leaving a huge void in our club and in all those who knew him on or off the field”.
“He was a great athlete, colleague and person who will always be a part of our history. To his family, friends and loved ones we extend our deepest condolences at this time of profound sorrow. To the entire family of the Lusitano Gym Club Moncarapachense – athletes, technical staff and management staff – we appeal to’unity, strength and mutual support at this very difficult time that will forever be marked in our history”.
