One of the three Saturday, Jan. 24, advances of the 22nd day of Serie A will be between Fiorentina and Cagliari. The match will be played at 6 p.m. at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence. Ahead of the challenge between the purple and red-blue clubs, double former Giacomo Banchelli spoke to ‘Pentasport’ broadcast on Radio Bruno. “It will be the first match without Commisso at the stadium, the’atmosphere will be sad… then they come loaded from the victory against Juventus. Their goal is salvation, they are banking on direct clashes”.

Against the Sardinians coach Paolo Vanoli should rely again on Roberto Piccoli in attack. Moise Kean, who missed the’last match against Bologna, in fact, is still struggling with a discomfort in his right ankle. On the comparison between the Azzurro and the former Cagliari, Banchelli has no doubts: “Kean last year had his moment, but he is still a player who, if he is well, can play safely in the teams at the top of the standings. To Piccoli, I even prefer an injured Kean: he is too strong even when he does not score goals. Piccoli needs continuity, but he is not as explosive as Kean, he is more cumbersome”.

After the signings of Manor Solomon, Marco Brescianini, and Jack Harrison, Fiorentina signed another winter market coup: Giovanni Fabbian. The Viola’s former striker approved the purchase of the midfielder from Veneto: “He fits in well and is very strong up front”. The 23-year-old trequartista has made 91 appearances with Bologna between Serie A, Coppa Italia, the Italian Super Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League, scoring 11 goals and winning one Coppa Italia.

“Someone like Brescianini was needed in midfield. He and Fabbian, along with Fagioli, go to build a good department. Fazzini is a very good player but right now we need more ready and more experienced people, it also depends on how the coach wants to play…” Banchelli concluded.

Fiorentina-Cagliari is a delicate salvation clash. The violets, fourth-last with 17 points, along with Lecce, are chasing their fifth consecutive useful result to move away from the relegation zone, while the red and blue, galvanized by the success against Juventus, are +5 on the relegation zone.
