The troubles in the league were reflected in the cup: Bologna did not go beyond a 2-2 home draw against Celtic Glasgow in the match valid for the seventh day of the Europa League. Down 0-2 in the first half despite the Scots being down to 10 men due to Hatate’s naive sending-off, Italiano&#8217s team reacted in the second half and came back to equalize, then was stopped by Schmeichel&#8217s saves. In the standings, the Emilians are 13th on 12 points, and landing in the top 8 will be very complicated with one day to go.

First half horror for Bologna, which closes down 0-2 despite being in 11 against 10. The Rossoblù paid for the initial mistake of goalkeeper Skorupski, returning to the field after a long stop: the extreme defender gave the Scots the lead at 5′. The Polish goalkeeper instead of passing a teammate delivered the ball into the box to Maeda, who immediately served Hatate for the 1-0 with an empty goal. After the initial shock Bologna staggers and immediately risks conceding the double, then regains the field even though the opponent’s goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, is always alert.

At 34′ Hatate blatantly gets himself sent off for a naive double yellow card, but Bologna did not take advantage and even suffered the 2-0 at 40′ by Trusty, served by Engels. Bologna finally shook off in the second half: Italiano’s team created chances in series and hit a crossbar at 55′ with Dominguez. The goal is in the air and it is Dallinga who finds it at 58′ thanks to Odgaard’s tower off Moro’s cross.

The Rossoblù halved the disadvantage and poured forward in search of an equalizer: at 72′ Rowe made the Dall’Ara crowd rejoice with a powerful conclusion from outside the box that made it 2-2. The inertia is in Bologna’s favor as it goes all’assaulting the Celtic goal in search of the winning goal, but there’s too much frenzy and too little precision in the Emilians&#8217 actions.

The only clear chance in the last minutes happens on the feet of Cambiaghi but an excellent Schmeichel says no again and saves his team.
