Rumor has it that Maignan is getting closer and closer to choosing AC Milan again. The long negotiation for his renewal seems to have reached the climax. After the challenge with Roma there will be, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the decisive meeting between the parties to formalize the new contract. There would be only a few details to settle but nothing insurmountable. Another novelty is related to the rescission clause that, in the new agreement, will not be taken into account.

The Rossoneri management is working relentlessly to identify the right profile to replace the Frenchman

Maignan, due to expire in June 2026, is thus preparing to link himself for the rest of his career with Milan on a contract until 2031. The Rossoneri captain will receive for the next few years a salary of about five million euros net per season as a fixed base, plus bonuses linked to personal and team results. Thanks to this salary increase, Maignan will go on to receive a similar emolument to Rafael Leao, the highest-paid player on the meneghini’s roster.

On his trail were several English clubs, including Chelsea, but the player and the Rossoneri managers, particularly Igli Tare, strongly wanted the deal. Massimiliano Allegri himself reportedly pressed for a positive resolution of the negotiation. Maignan is at Milan from 2021: the French goalkeeper is enjoying a season at a high level, and has kept his goal unbeaten in eleven out of twenty-four total matches counting all competitions this year.

With the more than likely reappointment of Maignan as number one, Milan solves an issue that was becoming complicated to manage. The risk of a Donnarumma encore now seems to have been thwarted to the delight of the Rossoneri people who have always pushed for the Frenchman’s renewal.

At this point, Milan can focus on other matters, particularly the choice of a center forward for next season. As known, the’idea is to find a center forward of great quality to solve that critical issue as well.
