Adriano Panatta in an interview to the TV program ‘Hello Male’, spoke openly about his life, and his regrets as a father: “As a dad I have never been a present father for obvious reasons”, confessed the’former Italian tennis player, who had three children from his first marriage to Rosaria Luconi, Niccolò, born in 1975, Alessandro, born in 1979 and Rubina, born in 1980. “I have always been there in the moments when I had to be there, but I recriminate the fact that when they were very young I was always around the world”.

“Unfortunately, it was my job and I could not do otherwise”. After his divorce with Rosaria Luconi in 2014, Panatta remarried in 2020 to Anna Bonamigo: “I made so many mistakes, even years when I had completely isolated myself. The merit of my wife Anna was that she gave me back the joy of putting myself back out there and starting again”. Panatta confessed that he isolated himself a lot for a period of his life: “I had also lost contact with friends. I didn”t feel like seeing anyone, I was doing my job but in my free moments I didn”t hang out with anyone. I kept to myself”.

Inevitable also a mention of today’s tennis and Jannik Sinner: “Who do I keep between Berrettini, Sinner and Borg? I keep Borg because we are lifelong friends, the other two I know little about, but they are really two great guys”. L’former Blue spoke more about himself, revealing what bores him: “I am bored by jerks, I have met so many of them, I ignore them. I have done many things, such as giving punches in the stands, I have fought with many people, now I don”t do stupid things anymore.

Panatta then revealed the tennis player who was instrumental in his career: “Definitely Zugarelli: he taught me and others how to win and he taught us how to be in the world”. Adriano Panatta, world No. 4 in 1976, won 10 tournaments on the ATP circuit. He won Roland Garros and the Internazionali d’Italia in 1976, and was Italian number one for 286 total weeks.

In 1976, his golden year, he also won the Davis Cup. He’was the only tennis player who could beat Bjorn Borg at Roland Garros, and he did so twice in his career.
