Milan market, not only Mateta: decisive days for the arrival of a new defender

The last days of the winter soccer market are decidedly feverish for AC Milan, which after the arrival of Niclas Füllkrug, the acceleration for the renewal of Mike Maignan and the negotiation almost in the bag (barring sensational twists and turns) that will bring another striker, Jean-Philippe Mateta, is also working behind the scenes to reinforce a defense often struggling this season with depth problems. Three names are circulating in circles close to the Rossoneri club, one of them already ready for the’possible transfer: Axel Disasi.

The Frenchman, born in 1998, is one of the so-called “redundancies” of Chelsea, a club reached in 2023 after shining in the previous three seasons at Monaco in Ligue 1. However, with the Blues, grappling in those years with a deep reconstruction of the squad (at the end of the 2023-2024 season it counted 45 elements), Disasi failed to assert himself, so much so that he was briefly sent to Aston Villa last season finding himself, upon returning to base, out of the project of first Enzo Maresca and then Liam Rosenior.

The Blues, two and a half years ago, invested 45 million to bring Disasi to London but it is very difficult, given what has happened in recent years, to get even close to those figures. The Blues are willing to “sell out” also to lighten the wage bill, but the transfer formula is the main knot: the Rossoneri, in fact, would like to get the player on loan, even on interest, with the possibility of redeeming him at the end of the season but, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the English club would prefer a permanent transfer as early as January.

While waiting to figure out what to do next, the Rossoneri are not losing sight of two other names, although their signing is more likely next summer: in fact, from Spain comes the news of an interest in Jose Maria Gimenez, central of Atletico Madrid and of the Uruguayan national team. Born in 1995, his contract is not expiring but his market value is around 15 million euros, a figure that can be worked on in negotiations.

In the crosshairs there would also be, according to Corriere dello Sport, Lazio’s Mario Gila: also in this case it seems unlikely a transfer as early as January for the 25-year-old, a regular starter in Maurizio Sarri’s eleven who, given the other disposals of this winter session, would have raised the wall at least until the end of the season to keep the Spaniard. Negotiations could therefore resume at the end of the season.
