At 9 p.m. Italian time the match between Liverpool and Newcastle valid for the 24th day of the Premier League will be staged at Anfield. The Reds are not going through a good moment in the league, with the’last victory dating back more than a month in the 2-1 suffered against last-place Wolves. In the Champions League, the music is different: Slot&#8217s team finished third in the league phase, managing to snatch direct qualification to the round of 16, thanks in part to a resounding 6-0 thrashing in the last round against Qarabag.

Newcastle is not doing well either: the Magpies are ninth in the league, far below initial expectations. Like their rivals, however, they too have had a good run in Europe, finishing 11th in the Champions maxi round, with direct qualification to the round of 16 only two points away and grabbing important results such as a draw at home to PSG on the last day.

The Magpies are also not doing well.

Turning to the lineups, Arnel Slot will rely on his usual 4-3-3: Alisson in goal, Kerkez at left-back and the adapted Szoboszlai on the right because of injuries to Frimpong and Bradley, center backs Konate and Van Dijk. In midfield Mac Allister and Gravenberch with Wirtz more advanced, trident formed by Salah, Ekitiké and Gakpo.

Visiting coach Eddie Howe also deploys a 4-3-3, with Pope in goal, Trippier and Hall full-backs, center Botman and the’former Milan Thiaw. In midfield Bruno Guimaraes, the’other former Rossoneri Tonali and Ramsey. In attack Barnes, central point Wissa and Gordon on the left.

Probable lineups

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo. All. Slot.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Bruno Guimaraes, Tonali, Ramsey; Barnes, Wissa, Gordon. All. Howe.
