Hansi Flick brings something never seen to Barcelona: everyone is talking about it

The world of soccer is constantly updating and the well-being of the players, especially now that there are so many games to be played, is at the center of everything and must be taken care of down to the smallest detail. Hansi Flick, who at Barcelona has already brought several innovations from past managements especially in the area of nutrition, knows this well: everyone eats breakfast at the Ciutat Esportiva and those who have a personal chef must coordinate with the club’s chef. But it didn’t end there: now he has introduced another novelty.
According to reports in Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick has convinced Joan Laporta to hire a sleep doctor, a very important but still underutilized figure in the world of soccer. Basically, the doctor will help Robert Lewandowski and his teammates recover properly from the physical exertion of training and matches, plus he will manage the champions’ sleep routine considering the team’s constant travels (which often include major jet leg as well).
To help them sleep both during and after the trip, players receive guidelines from the sleep doctor that include, for example, avoiding digital screens for an hour before bedtime, not consuming anything containing caffeine for ten hours beforehand, and ensuring a proper environment, such as a dark, cool and quiet bedroom with temperature control. Today, the sleep doctor is a novelty but soon it could become the norm at top clubs, which are increasingly focused on contributing to players’ well-being.
Reduced by five consecutive victories (against Albacete, Elche, Copenhagen, Real Oviedo and Slavia Prague), Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are preparing for their next game against Mallorca, scheduled for Saturday at 4:15 pm. In the league, the Catalans are battling with Real Madrid: at the moment Lamine Yamal and his teammates are first on 55 points, one more than the Blancos coached by Alvaro Arbeloa after Xabi Alonso’s exoneration.
During the winter soccer session, Barcelona only signed João Cancelo, who arrived on an onerous loan (about 4 million euros) from Al Hilal’Al Hilal. “I did not think twice about coming back when the opportunity presented itself. I told everyone that I would wait for Barcelona. Representing this club is an honor, it is the best in the world” said the Portuguese fullback.
