Federica Brignone won the Super G in Soldeu in Andorra. It is the first overall victory in this specialty for the Valle d’Aosta athlete, her second World Cup success of the season. Also on the podium were U.S. Ross and Austrian Tippler.
Saturday to forget, however, for Lindsey Vonn: the U.S. champion fell and hurt herself. Immediately rescued, she was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the valley to be transferred to the hospital. The accident occurred after the second intermediate, almost close to the finish line, which gave Vonn a 32-hundredths-of-a-second lead over Brignone. The race was suspended for 20 minutes.
Tests taken by the athlete showed a microfracture in one knee: but the star skier could be back on track as early as this Sunday.
