They are golden rifles those of Italy at the Rio Games. After the silvers of Johnny Pellielo in the fossa and Marco Innocenti in the double trap, the final of the women’s skeet in fact gives a memorable Italian double, with Diana Bacosi in first place and Chiara Cainero in second in the 6-man final held at the Olympic Shooting Centre.

An absolute first, which raises the Italian medal tally to 15, with 4 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals,

After the exhilarating run in the semifinals, with Diana finishing second behind China’s Meng Wei with 72/75 and Chiara, already gold at Beijing 2008 in the same specialty, who had obtained an excellent 70/75, the final was monochrome.

Infallible Cainero, one mistake for Bacosi, closely followed by all the other finalists, starting with the legendary Kimberly Rhode, skeet legend, first runner-up in London, but now forced to settle for the bronze won against China’s Wei Meng.

To win in the two-man final was Bacosi, favored by the unexpected double mistake in Chiara’s first two skeet skeet. It ended with Bacosi in first place with 15/16 and Chiara silver with 14. But nothing disturbed the double podium celebration.
