F1 Hungary: Lando Norris’s “First” as No. 1. Antonelli on the Podium, Another Penalty for Hamilton
For the first time since his McLaren has sported the number 1 on its nose, Lando Norris has won an F1 Grand Prix—and he did it in Hungary, at the Hungaroring circuit. For both the reigning world champion and the Woking-based team, this marks their first victory of the season, reflecting a return to competitiveness after a difficult start to 2026. Norris finished ahead of Max Verstappen, who came in second in his Red Bull. Kimi Antonelli finished third and remains comfortably in the lead in the world championship standings.
The driver from Bologna battled Lewis Hamilton in the final stages of the race, but yet another penalty imposed on the British driver in recent weeks—this time for speeding in the pit lane— prevented the Ferrari driver not only from fighting for the podium but also from finishing in fourth place, as Charles Leclerc crossed the line behind him less than 5 seconds behind, thus overtaking him after the times were recalculated and securing fourth place.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Isack Hadjar (Red Bull), George Russell (Mercedes), Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Nico Hülkenberg (first points for the Audi driver), and Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls). From eleventh place onward are Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi), Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso (both Aston Martin), Franco Colapinto (Alpine), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz (both Williams), and Ollie Bearman (Haas). Retirees: Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Sergio Perez, and Valtteri Bottas (both Cadillac).
Kimi Antonelli remains at the top of the standings with 219 points, followed by Lewis Hamilton with 169, George Russell with 160, Charles Leclerc with 138, Lando Norris with 128, and Max Verstappen with 109. No other drivers have reached triple digits; the closest is Oscar Piastri with 92 points. There will now be a long break for the Formula 1 circuit, which will return at the end of August with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
