Fiji Islands win the first medal in its history.

The Polynesians, as predicted, also won the Rugby Sevens final after winning all the matches played in Brazil, including the one against New Zealand. In a final with no history, Fiji folded Great Britain by a score of 43-7.

Great celebration on the field, at Deodoro Stadium (with tearful players singing and praying in a circle), and great celebration in and around Suva. The bronze, however, was won by South Africa, which overwhelmed Japan 54-14 in the final for third/fourth place.
