Nikolay Davydenko is adamant about Roger Federer’s future
The prediction of the former top 3 ATP
Nikolay Davydenko, former number 3 in the ATP rankings, spoke to the trade magazine ‘Clay’ about the current state of tennis, dwelling in particular on one of the champions who marked an era, Roger Federer.
According to the Russian, who has won only two of 21 head-to-head matches against Federer in his career, fans should start preparing for the announcement of the Swiss phenomenon’s retirement. “I don’t know if he will come back competitive, but I really think he will play in Basel (in October, ed.) to finish his career in his hometown.”
“For sure he was my toughest opponent,” Davydenko added. “Against his forehand, which is extremely fast, and his serve, which is very accurate, there were no countermeasures. To think that I could control a match against him was impossible.”
