Paolo Bertolucci outspoken about Jannik Sinner

Italian tennis fans still have Jannik Sinner&#39s grand success at the Australian Open in their eyes, with his epic comeback against Daniil Medvedev in the final being the icing on the cake. But the season è just beginning and the South Tyrolean, as Paolo Bertolucci explained to the microphones of 'Fanpage', will have to maintain a very high level of play, especially if he wants to reach the first position in the world ranking, a goal never achieved either at the men's or women's level by Italian athletes.

"I think he will have to win a lot, a lot, a lot and we will talk about it in the fall eventually,” said the former tennis player, a member of the Italian team that won the Davis Cup in 1976. In terms of points it would be necessary for him to win everything and for the others to lose very soon. There’è a long way to go, but è a path that will inevitably take him there, è a matter of months".

"He has all the qualities to do it,” Bertolucci reiterated, “and even his opponents have said so: è he is ready to become number one. There’è only to wait. Now there’è is American cement, which, although outdoors, è is as congenial a surface for him as grass. In between there’è the earth where he could make a little more’ effort".

The one won at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday è was the 11th tournament won by Jannik Sinner, certainly the most important one being the first at Slam level. In his career, Sinner has also won a Masters 1000 (Toronto 2023), three ATP 500s (Washington 2021, Beijing and Vienna 2023) and six ATP 250s (Sofia 2020 and 2021, Melbourne and Antwerp 2021, Umag 2022 and Montpellier 2023).
