Roma gives up on ‘Gamper’ and Barcelona gets angry
Harsh statement from the Catalans
The long-awaited luxury friendly between Barcelona and Roma, valid for the ‘Gamper Trophy’ organized by the Catalans, will not take place, and the blaugrana are pointing the finger right at the Giallorossi for the forfeit, with a very harsh statement released on their official website.
“Barcelona,” the note reads, “announces that AS Roma has decided to terminate, unilaterally and without just cause, the contract signed by both parties to play the Joan Gamper Trophy, scheduled for next August 6 at Camp Nou, in an edition that would once again bring together the men’s and women’s teams. The club is working to find a new opponent for this year’s edition.”
“In the next 24 hours, refunds of tickets already purchased will be activated. The club wants to make it clear how the cancellation of these matches is due to circumstances extraneous to Barcelona,â for the exclusive will of AS Roma. The club’s legal area is studying possible actions against the Italian company, for damages caused to Barcelona and its fans due to this unexpected and unjustified decision,” the Catalan club concludes.
Roma had announced shortly before, through its official channels, its withdrawal from the summer friendly: “The decision,” explained the Giallorossi club, “stems from the need to modify the planning of the summer friendlies, in order to create the best possible working conditions, in view of the upcoming season, for the Club’s men’s and women’s first teams.
“Both teams will continue their preparation through other commitments,” the note further reads, “less impactful in terms of travel, which will be communicated as soon as they are defined. We thank FC Barcelona for the invitation, to whom the Club wishes a good continuation of summer preparation.”
