Tour de France, Jakobsen’s feat: “I’ve been waiting for it for 15 years.”
Fabio Jakobsen won the first sprint of the Grande Boucle
Fabio Jakobsen is the picture of happiness at the end of the second stage of the Tour de France, which saw him win the first sprint of this edition of the Grande Boucle. Two years after his terrible crash in the Tour of Poland, the Dutch sprinter scored his first Tour success ahead of Van Aert (new yellow jersey) and Pedersen in Nyborg.
“Today was incredible,” he said after the stage win. “My process went step by step to get to this point. So many people helped me and stood by me. It is a truly unforgettable day. The team got me into the perfect position after the exit from the bridge. I decided to beat Van Aert’s wheel, touched a little bit with Sagan, and then in the last 50 meters I gave the final blow to get to this great victory. My legs were burning at the end but these are the sprints, this is the Tour de France. I had been dreaming of a moment like this for 15 years. I thank all the cheering I received here in Denmark,” the words reported by Oasport.
