Ferrari driver’s father involved in electric suv championship accident

Hours of apprehension in Sardinia for Carlos Sainz Senior, father of the Ferrari driver. The multiple world rally champion was involved in an accident Thursday afternoon inside the Teulada military range, where the first round of the Island X Prix 1 of Extreme E, an electric SUV championship, was being held.

This is the note from his team: “This afternoon Carlos Sainz was hit by another car while he was leading the final of Island X Prix 1 in Sardinia. As a result of the impact, his car overturned in a hard crash. Carlos was able to leave the car on his own legs and remained conscious. The driver was taken to the hospital for a precautionary medical checkup.”

Senior Sainz himself reassured everyone, “I felt some pain, but all the tests went well. I am very disappointed about what happened on the track and the only 30-second penalty given to the person who caused this serious accident.”
