Tiger Woods fails to make the cut and bursts into tears
Tiger Woods waved an emotional goodbye to St. Andrews: ‘I’m not retiring’
No dice for Tiger Woods: the U.S. golfer failed to make the cut at the Open, and he bid a tearful farewell perhaps for the last time to the audience at the Old Course at Saint Andrews.
“I first came here in 1995,” he explained, “The next Open Championship at Saint Andrews will be played maybe in 2030, and I don’t know if I will still be able to play then. Yes, I think it was my last Open at Saint Andrews. As I walked to the last green I could hear the noise growing, I could feel the warmth, the affection and the respect of the people. I always put my heart, my feelings into this tournament, I think the fans appreciated that.”
“The tears? When I realized it could be the last time for me here, I got emotional. Retiring? No, but I have no plans for the future, we’ll see. Try to play more often? I’d like to, but it’s hard enough to walk 18 holes every so often….”
