Tour de France, Matthews takes stage: Vingegaard in yellow

Pogacar 2’22” behind Vingegaard in overall

The fourteenth stage of the Tour de France 2022 ended with the victory of Michael Matthews. The Australian rider from Bike Exchange won the stage that started in Saint Etienne with an uphill finish in Mende ahead of Italian Alberto Bettiol, who was 15″ off, and Thibaut Pinot, who finished 34″ behind the winner.

The big boys finished 12’33” behind Matthews with Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) staying ahead of yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) at the finish in Mende. Geraint Thomas (Ineos-Grenadiers), on the other hand, lost a few seconds more.

Vingegaard still holds a 2’22” lead over Pogacar in the overall. Thomas drops to 2’43”, then Romain Bardet (Team DSM) at 3’03” and Adam Yates (Ineos-Grenadiers) at 4’06”. Tomorrow’s flat 15th stage from Rodez to Carcassonne.
