World athletics championships, big disappointment for Gaia Sabbatini
He then finished with the sixth fastest time
At the ongoing World Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Gaia Sabbatini again stopped in the semifinals. Just as she did last year at the Tokyo Olympics, the Italian middle distance runner did not in fact qualify for the final.
This time, however, it was a disqualification that stopped Sabbatini, due to a contact on the final straight between the Italian and Winnie Nanyondo of Uganda, who then went to the ground. Gaia then finished the semifinal with the sixth time of 4’05″41, still out of the final.
These are her words reported by Fidal channels, “I was very very good today, but I made a tactical mistake in the race. I tried to pass the Ugandan on the inside, there was a squabble because I was taking the curb. I stumbled a bit, maybe I caught him with my foot and it stayed there,” she explained. “I’m sorry, it was something I didn’t want.
