Marcell Jacobs doesn’t go for it: comes the announcement
“Those who really love me send me messages in private.”
Leaving behind the disappointment of withdrawing from the World Championships in Eugene due to a contracture in the large adductor in his right thigh, Marcell Jacobs is already looking ahead to the upcoming European Championships scheduled for Aug. 15-21 in Munich, Bavaria. At a press conference broadcast by Sky Sports, the reigning Olympic champion over the 100-meter distance spoke about his recovery program. Manon alone. Indeed, the criticism he received on social media in the aftermath of the retirement news did not leave the El Paso native unmoved.
“I just have to think about taking things slow to get to the European Championships in the best possible condition I’ve ever had. I want to find the perfect form to smash everything. I was the first one to force myself in some cases because I can’t handle watching others from the couch at home, but you have to take things slow in preparation for the European Championships,” Jacobs began.
“I was coming from a hamstring elongation and that’s what kept me down since Savona. And around Stockholm it came back. I think it all started with the issues I have with my back. The day before the race I felt good and was doing one of the best workouts I’ve ever done. Maybe the fact that I was feeling this leg as free as I had felt in a long time … and then came this problem on the other side.”
On the subject of the many criticisms he received on social media, the sprinter made a drastic decision: “I deleted the Instagram and Facebook app so I wouldn’t see anything and follow the comments. Those who really love me and are close to me send me messages in private, and that’s what’s important to me,” he concluded.
