Lorenzo Musetti, mission accomplished: it will be final in Hamburg
Mission accomplished: it will be a final, the first in his career on the ATP circuit.
Lorenzo Musetti will continue his participation in the Hamburg European Open to the last act, thanks to a victory in the semifinals over Francisco Cerundolo. In fact, the Argentine fell in two sets, losing in less than two hours with a final of 6-3 7-6(3). The 20-year-old from Tuscany had never before made it to an ATP final: already now he has become number 40 on the world circuit, if he wins again he would move to position 31.
The young man from Carrara set the match great, taking a resounding 5-0 lead in the first set thanks to the two breaks he snatched in the second and fourth games. A counterbreak at 2-5 was not enough for Cerundolo, with Musetti authoritatively closing out the games. The second set was more complex, although the Italian opened immediately by snatching service from his rival. In fact, the sixth and seventh games see break and counterbreak, while in the tenth it is back to 5-5. The tie-break is then needed, and it is here that Musetti takes the victory that allows him to obtain the highest result of his still young career. And there is still the final to be played.
