Juantorena’s heir chosen

In the 2022/23 season, red-and-white setter Luciano De Cecco will wear the captain’s armband of Cucine Lube Civitanova. Following Osmany Juantorena’s farewell, after consulting with the club, coach Chicco Blengini decided to give this chance to the Argentine setter. The number 15 of the Italian champions, in his third year as cuciniero, immediately understood the importance of being able to lead the tricolor Lube to new goals.

De Cecco, who in the last year found himself in the role of vice-captain on court when Robertlandy Simon was filling in for the injured Juantorena, was therefore chosen by the club and coach as the new point of reference of the red and white roster. Responsibilities that the Santa Fe director immediately accepted with gratitude and pride.

“I am very happy to wear the captain’s armband and I am equally optimistic about this new path,” said the new captain. “It is not easy to inherit such an important task from a great player and a great person like Osmany Juantorena, but I will take this responsibility with my head held high! I greet all the fans and all my teammates. We will see each other soon!”

As of today De Cecco is part of the list of captains in the history of Cucine Lube Civitanova, a role that in recent times (from 2010 onward) has been held by Omrcen, Monopoli, Zaystev, Podrascanin, Miljkovic, Stankovic and Juantorena.
