Tour: Philipsen sprints to victory in Paris, Vingegaard seals overall win
Second stage win in Tour 2022 for Philipsen
Jasper Philipsen is the winner of stage 21 of the Tour de France, the final stage of the 2022 edition of the Grande Boucle with a traditional finish on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
The Belgian sprinter on Alpecin-Deceuninck (who had already won stage 15, with the finish in Carcassonne) dominated the final sprint: nothing to do for Dylan Groenewegen (Team BikeExchange-Jayco) and Alexander Kristoff (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux), who were second and third at the finish, respectively.
The stage, as expected, proved to be a simple final catwalk for Jonas Vingegaard, who thus officially clinched the Tour de France 2022, completing the race with 2’49” over Tadej Pogacar (Team UAE Emirates) and 7’28” over Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers).
Rather disappointing, in terms of results, the Grande Boucle of the Italian riders: no stage wins and no riders in the top 20 of the general classification. The best of the Bel Paese riders is Simone Velasco (Astana-Qazaqstan), 26th over two hours behind Vingegaard.
