Vincenzo Nibali in an interview with La Stampa spoke ahead of the end of his career: “The last months as a professional? A little few… I will race the Vuelta for fun. The Tour of Lombardy and the duel with Pogacar as a last gift for the fans? Maybe, that would be great.”

On the outcome of the Tour and Vingegaard’s success: “He had already shown great things in France last year. I like his story: the former worker in a fish factory in Denmark who through determination and talent won the most important race in the world by beating a phenomenon, because that’s Pogacar. Maybe now he will change the way he interprets racing, but he remains an outclassman; we may even have discovered his only weakness, the heat, maybe he suffers from it.”
