Incredible action by the Brianza runner

He was finally able to raise his arms to the finish line after a long time without a victory, Davide Ballerini, who was able to win the penultimate stage of the Tour of Wallonia, starting in Durbuy and finishing in Couvin at the end of a 200.9-kilometer-long course. Ballerini is the first Italian in three years to win a stage of the race on Belgian soil.

The success came in the most improbable way: in a breakaway from the beginning of the stage with other riders, Ballerini resisted practically until the arrival to the return of the group, which miscalculating the time of recovery on the day’s attackers actually allowed the rider from Brianza to resist until the finish line, winning the success with a few meters of advantage.

“This victory means so much to me, because cycling is my life,” Ballerini said. “I am happy to be back on the top step of the podium in a race, thus repaying the team’s trust in me. I dedicate the success to my teammates who are no longer in the race, I hope they recover soon.”

“It was not an easy day, but I always believed in it, even when the gap was closing fast in the finale. Our breakaway group was small, but we gave everything and I’m happy to have anticipated the group at the finish,” Ballerini concluded.
