A new target for Sainz

Twice in 2022, Carlos Sainz has recorded the fastest lap in a race: he managed it in both the Canadian and French Grand Prix, while in his previous 148 races he had only managed it once. In Hungary, for the first time in his career, he could record the second consecutive fastest lap.

At the Hungaroring, the last Ferrari driver to record the fastest lap was Kimi Raikkonen, in 2016.

In the colors of the Maranello stable, the Spaniard took his first career pole position at Silverstone on July 2, 2022, and the following day he scored his first career Formula 1 victory at the end of a race masterfully conducted in adverse weather conditions. With the success in Britain, Sainz became the second Spanish driver to win a GP in F1, after only Fernando Alonso.
