Jannik Sinner ahead in Umag: Munar falls in two sets
A clear victory, despite some head-scratching in the end.
Jannik Sinner advances at the ATP 250 tournament in Umag, thanks to a two-set victory over Jaume Munar. The South Tyrolean prevailed with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 56 minutes. Complex in particular was the last and decisive game, with the Italian folding his opponent after as many as 18 points and five untaken match points.
The evening seemed to start in the best way for Sinner, who opened the first set by snatching service from the Spaniard already in the first game. Munar gives himself the immediate counterbreak, however, and preserves the lead without too much headache until 4-4. It was here that Sinner turned the set around, taking the 5-4 break by conceding just one point this time.
Even more balance in the second set, which in fact goes on for more than an hour. From the third to the fifth game came three consecutive breaks, allowing Sinner to take a 3-2 lead and preserve it until the tenth game. Here, however, the risk of not closing and indeed of suffering a new break becomes apparent twice. After a very long game of advantages and counter-advantages, however, in the end it is the San Candido champion who gets the better of it.
