F1, Lewis Hamilton makes an admission about Sebastian Vettel
Hamilton and Vettel both made their F1 debuts in 2007
The Formula 1 Hungarian GP weekend opened with the announcement of Sebastian Vettel’s retirement at the end of the year. It was news that did not surprise Lewis Hamilton all that much.
These are the words of the seven-time world champion: “I knew it was coming, there had been warnings, but the officialdom is something else. It’s sad to hear that he’s going to stop,” Hamilton said. “I haven’t had a lot of time to think about all the path we’ve been on together, but I would say he’s one of the few people in Formula 1 who hasn’t made me feel lonely.
“He has been there for me on many occasions. I remember, I think in 2007, a very outspoken intervention from him during the drivers’ briefing, and I knew then that he was going to be a major figure in F1,” Hamilton added. “I think he’s one of the greatest people we’ve seen in the sport. We need more like him.”
“Over the years we have been able to support each other. He has supported me so much, and I like to think I have done the same for him. We will continue to be friends.”
