F1, George Russell mocks Ferrari: first historic pole

First pole of the year for Mercedes

In qualifying for the Hungarian GP came Mercedes’ first ring of 2022 with the historic first pole position of his career for George Russell.

1’17″377 was the British driver’s best time ahead of the two Ferraris. Second was Carlos Sainz at just 44 thousandths, third instead was Charles Leclerc almost two tenths off. Then Lando Norris in a McLaren ahead of the two Alpine cars of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso.

More in trouble was the other Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, seventh, ahead of the Alfa Romeo of Valtteri Bottas and the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo. Engine problems in Q3 for world leader Max Verstappen, who will start only tenth in the Red Bull. Outside the top ten is teammate Sergio Perez, 11th.
