F1 Ferrari, Horner baffled by Binotto: “I would never have said that.”
Red Bull team principal Horner on Binotto’s words, “I would never say we will finish in first and second place.”
The Ferrari debacle in Hungary was made all the more evident by the words on the eve of the race by Maranello team principal Mattia Binotto, who had spoken openly about doing a Leclerc-Sainz “one-two.” A communication strategy rejected by Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who was clear to Motorsport: “Even if we had won the race before by one lap, I would never say that we would finish first and second in the next Grand Prix.”
Horner went on to pinpoint the key to the Hungarian race, Ferrari’s pit road mistake: “The key moment for us was when we saw Leclerc on hard tires, we thought we really had a chance. We have a great team of strategists here and in Milton Keynes. The pit stops today were very quick.”
