F1 Ferrari, leaks an outburst by Charles Leclerc
“We didn’t have to react to Verstappen, we had to go longer on the second stint,” Leclerc’s words
In the first hot off the press after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc had refrained from pointing the finger at race strategies, explaining that he would discuss it internally with the team. Two days after the GP, however, the first outbursts from the Monegasque, who carefully analyzed Ferrari’s fatal mistake, began to leak out. “In the second stint we should have gone longer because the pace was still good. The first pit stop happened at the right time, but the second one I don’t know why we decided to shorten it so much and mount the Hard,” the words to GpFans.
According to Leclerc, there could be an explanation for Ferrari’s forced decision: just before Verstappen mounting the medium was having a great pace, and this would have put pressure on the Cavallino’s race wall. “I’m pretty sure Max wanted to put pressure on us, and I think we shouldn’t have reacted…. What came next was a snowball effect. We lost a lot more than we should have.”
