Higuita celebrates birthday by winning. And he’s already thinking about the time trial
Birthday and leader’s jersey for Higuita
At the Tour of Poland birthday with celebration for the always combative Sergio Higuita. The third stage (237.9 km from Krasnik to Przemysl,) turned out to be as hard-fought as promised, with numerous attacks and plenty of spectacle.
On the day he blew out 25 candles, Sergio Higuita was not intimidated by the challenging Przemysl climb and, with just over 200 meters to go, attacked, leaving Pello BIlbao (Bahrain Victorious) and Quinten Hermans (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert) in second and third place, respectively.
“It was a special day for me because the victory coincided with my birthday. I couldn’t expect a better present. It was a long stage but we stayed focused the whole time to be able to fight for the win. The team worked very well. The Przemysl climb is really hard and you have to be able to use your strength very well, especially in the final part that leaves no breath before the final sprint. Now we will try to defend the jersey in the coming days. The time trial will be a crucial moment because you have to face it to the fullest from start to finish. With the team we will now do our best to defend the leadership.”
