F1 Ferrari: Toto Wolff, surprise words on Mattia Binotto
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff defends colleague Mattia Binotto: “Attacking a person is never right.”
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff at the microphones of RacingNews365.com spoke about the tension at Ferrari’s home after the strategy error in the Hungarian Grand Prix and defended colleague Mattia Binotto, without ever naming him. “I can’t comment, but attacking a person is never right,” said the manager of the Austrian team.
“I don’t know what the reasons were or why they decided to substitute the medium or not use the softs at the beginning of the race, but I think that cost them the victory. The Ferraris were fast, but they couldn’t materialize anything,” Wolff continued. “It’s certainly getting harder and harder to race when your car is in front and it’s hard to do it well, because then if you make a mistake you are constantly in the spotlight. The decisions you make can potentially cost you the whole race,” the Austrian concluded.
