Lewis Hamilton happy with progress but warns, “It’s not enough, we need better performance”

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in an interview with Viaplay spoke about the German team’s progress after a complicated start to the World Championship: “It’s a really challenging year. I would say it is similar to the 2009 season. Even then the car looked good in January and February. Then we got to the first test and said, ‘Man, it’s a long way from where it should be.’ And so at the team level we went through a process to try to eliminate some things, rebuild, reorganize and improve the car.”

“We’ve gone through a process to improve the car,” Hamilton continued. “We’ve had very good consistency in the last few races, however, we still lack performance-I think there is potential in this car, but we had to depower it to keep it from suffering porpoising. We’ve had very good reliability, but we can’t always rely on it to get on the podium. Now we need to grow in performance.”
