Camila Giorgi, bad news after Toronto knockout
Camila Giorgi has to deal with ranking: more than 30 positions lost
A defeat in the round of 16 of the Toronto WTA tournament against Jessica Pegula of the United States will cost Camila Giorgi dearly. The Macerata-based tennis player, the tournament’s defending champion, was remounted and beaten in three sets by the world number 7, and thus was unable to defend the title she won last season-a blow to her ranking.
Camila from next Monday will lose 795 points, and will sink to 65th place, dropping as many as 36 positions from this week. Giorgi will thus become the Azzurra number 3, behind Martina Trevisan (25th) and Jasmine Paolini (54th), tied with Lucia Bronzetti.
