Rafa Nadal, here’s the announcement that makes his fans dream
On Sunday, August 21, the left-hander from Manacor could return to the top of the world rankings.
Recovering from the epic battle – yet another of his extraordinary career – against Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal subsequently succumbed to pain by foregoing the semifinal match against Nick Krygios, who was later beaten in the last act of the Championships by Novak Djokovic. The Iberian champion was scheduled to make his return to the court at the Canada Open being held in Montreal, but a discomfort incurred in training jeopardized his participation.
Now, ahead of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 that kicks off next August 15, Nadal has announced his presence via his Instagram profile. The early exit of world number one Daniil Medvedev from the tournament on Canadian soil opens up a great opportunity for the Manacor left-hander.
In fact, should Nadal win the tournament in the U.S.-an event that already occurred in 2013-and the Russian does not reach the quarterfinals, the Spaniard would become world number one again. A prospect that certainly tantalizes the irrepressible tennis player in no small way, who hopes to treat his many fans to an incredible new feat.
