The words of Filippo Tortu

Filippo Tortu spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the European Championships: “I’m aiming for the gold medal and to do less than 20 seconds. I am realistic, although there will be several of us aiming for the podium.”

“The first week after the World Championships I mainly thought about unloading and getting over the time difference, Then I went for it: on Wednesday I did the last pulled workout, with some repetitions and special attention to the exit of the bend. The important thing will be not to make mistakes and to improve shift management. I wasn’t used to 200 so close together.”

There is no shortage of competition: “Britain’s Hughes, silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games Saturday in 20.12, if he doesn’t have his tongue out. Israel’s 18-year-old Afrifah, who won the World Junior Championships in 19.96, although he had never run better than 20.49. And Turkey’s Guliyev: he’s not the one who flew 19.76 in Berlin 2018, but he won the Mediterranean Games and gave up the Worlds to be fresh at the European Championships. And Mitchell-Blake, who has La Chaux-de-Fonds gave me two meters with 19.97.”
