Alberto Juantorena fights for life, Cuba anxious
Alberto Juantorena’s condition
Cuba is anxious about the condition of one of its most famous sportsmen: Alberto Juantorena is in fact fighting for his life.
The legendary athlete, winner of two golds at the 1976 Montreal Olympics in the 400 m and 800 m, suffered serious complications after contracting Covid and is being treated these hours at Havana’s Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reported this in a social media post: “40 years ago, after Alberto Juantorena ‘with his heart’ and his legs had rocked Cuba with two Olympic titles, he repeated the feat in Havana ’82. Today he and the doctors are fighting for his life and Cuba hopes they will be just as successful.”
