Trent, Lele Molin welcomes Matthias Tass: “He is the future.”
Dolomiti Energia Trentino announces a two-year agreement with young Estonian forward Matthias Tass, class of 1999.
Another blow for the future for Dolomiti Energia Trentino, which announces that it has signed a two-year agreement with Matthias Tass: the young Estonian long man class ’99 in the 2022-23 season will not be part of the HCL roster, but will play on loan to continue his growth path in his “rookie” year.
In fact, Matthias in the last four seasons, the ones that formed him as a professional athlete, played in the NCAA, the U.S. collegiate championship, with the St. Mary’s Gaels jersey. In his four years of college basketball Tass, 208 centimeters for 110 kilograms, has had a growing impact on his team’s fortunes, finishing his senior year averaging 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 55.9 percent from the field. This past season Tass also showcased his interesting defensive qualities several times while facing Gonzaga’s second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft Chet Holmgren.
Born in Tallinn, Estonia, on March 23, 1999, Matthias gained experience in the youth sector of Limoges (France) and Kalev/Cramo (Estonia) before embarking on his sports and school adventure overseas. In 2017-18 he played 15 games in the Estonian national league scoring 12.8 points per game with 6.5 rebounds.
From a very young age he also joined Estonia’s national representations, with which he participated in two European Under-16 Division B championships, two European U18 B championships (selected in the first quintet of the event in 2017) and one European U20 B championship. Last June, Tass made his debut with the Estonian senior national team jersey in the losses suffered against Germany and Israel, and these days he is involved in the preparation competitions Estonia is playing ahead of Eurobasket, with a chance to be included in the roster that will be engaged in the round staged in Milan.
These are the words of coach Lele Molin: “This is an investment of perspective: Matthias is an emerging long in the European scene, a player that we want to focus on for the future and that, thanks to his qualities on both sides of the court and his physical skills, we believe he can grow and establish himself. In his “rookie” year in Europe he will gain experience in a premier continental league to continue his development and adapt back to European basketball.”
