Pantelleria burns, fear for Giorgio Armani: fleeing the island
Evacuated from the island by the owner of Olimpia Milano.
Fear and terror on the island of Pantelleria. In fact, late Wednesday afternoon a double fire broke out: one started from Kamma and the other from Gadir. For several hours the forestry corps has been busy on the northern slope of Cuddia di Gadir. Municipal volunteers, on the other hand, are operating on the sea side. In the late evening several Civil Defense teams are expected to leave for the island by ferry from Mazara del Vallo.
Among the large number of residents and tourists fleeing, also very high-profile sports and high-fashion personalities: Giorgio Armani, patron of Olimpia Milano and owner of a dammuso right in Gadir, has already been evacuated and left the island.
World champion in Spain ’82 Marco Tardelli, was present in Pantelleria with fellow journalist Myrto Merlino, who posted some photos of the fires, not failing to sound an alarm that also conceals a heavy accusation: “After a torrid summer full of fires this evening even my beloved Pantelleria is burning,” reads Merlino’s Twitter profile. “An arson here where even the canadair cannot arrive because of the wind. No more arson, those who deface our heritage must pay dearly!!!” he concluded.
